You know the medicine.
We teach you the exam.

As a former RACGP National Lead Examiner, George saw capable doctors fail, not for lack of knowledge, but because no one had shown them how examiners think, how marks are earned or how to make clinical reasoning visible. PassGP was built to change that.

RACGP exam preparation FAQs

Your Questions Answered

How do I prepare for the RACGP AKT, KFP, CCE Fellowship exams?

The RACGP Fellowship exams-including the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT), Key Feature Problems (KFP), and Clinical Competency Exam (CCE)-require structured, exam-specific preparation rather than general study alone.

The AKT assesses broad applied clinical knowledge across general practice. The KFP evaluates clinical reasoning, prioritisation, and decision-making in real-world scenarios. The CCE tests communication, consultation structure, and safe patient-centred care under pressure.

Effective preparation includes high-quality question banks, full-length mock exams, structured teaching on exam technique, examiner-led walkthroughs, and targeted revision tools such as flashcards.

Candidates who focus on how to answer-not just what to know-consistently perform better across all RACGP Fellowship exams.

How can PassGP help me pass the RACGP exams?

PassGP provides one of the most comprehensive RACGP Fellowship preparation platforms in Australia, designed by a former RACGP Chief Examiner.

The platform includes:

  • 2,595+ examiner-style AKT questions aligned to the RACGP curriculum
  • 1,375+ KFP-style cases with detailed reasoning and marking guidance
  • 500+ CCE cases with model answers, consultation structure, and examiner scoring cues
  • Fourteen full-length RACGP mock exams across AKT, KFP, and CCE formats
  • Unlimited small group teaching tutorials led by experienced educators
  • Recorded podcast lessons for flexible, on-the-go revision
  • 500+ high-yield flashcards covering core general practice topics
  • Video masterclasses on AKT technique, KFP reasoning, and CCE communication
  • AI-powered learning tools and adaptive question banks
  • Advanced question banks for higher-difficulty exam preparation
  • Performance analytics to track progress and identify weak areas
  • Bespoke one-to-one teaching, coaching, and mentoring
  • Mock exams with personalised examiner feedback

These resources are designed to replicate the style, difficulty, and expectations of real RACGP Fellowship exams, helping candidates develop safe, structured, and exam-ready clinical reasoning.

Why do candidates fail the RACGP AKT, KFP, and CCE exams?

Many candidates fail the RACGP exams not because of a lack of knowledge, but because they do not apply their knowledge in the way examiners expect.

Each exam has specific failure patterns:

AKT:

  • Over-interpreting questions and choosing overly complex answers
  • Selecting reasonable options rather than the single most defensible answer
  • Escalating unnecessarily instead of managing safely in general practice
  • Missing subtle clues or pivot words within the question

KFP:

  • Providing vague or non-specific answers instead of clear, actionable steps
  • Failing to prioritise or sequence management correctly
  • Missing key decision points or red flags
  • Not matching expected examiner wording

CCE:

  • Failing to verbalise clinical reasoning clearly
  • Missing early red flags in the consultation
  • Poor structure or disorganised consultation flow
  • Inadequate safety-netting or risk discussion

Across all exams, the common issue is the same-candidates know the content but do not translate it into structured, exam-ready answers.

Success comes from understanding how examiners think, how marks are awarded, and how to consistently demonstrate safe, structured clinical reasoning.

How long should I study for the RACGP exams?

Most candidates study for approximately 12 to 24 weeks for each of the AKT, KFP, and CCE exams, depending on their baseline knowledge and clinical experience.

A structured 12-week approach is commonly effective:

  • Weeks 1–4: Build core knowledge using flashcards and systematic topic review while beginning daily question bank practice.
  • Weeks 5–8: Increase the volume of timed AKT and KFP questions, begin using advanced question banks, and focus on refining exam technique and recognising patterns.
  • Weeks 9–10: Complete full-length mock exams under timed conditions and use performance analytics to identify weak areas and gaps.
  • Weeks 11–12: Target revision of weak areas, rehearse structured approaches, consolidate flashcards, and focus on high-yield topics and exam strategy.

Throughout preparation, candidates should integrate CCE communication practice, small group tutorials, and podcast learning to reinforce concepts.

Candidates who combine structured study with exam technique training early-rather than late-consistently achieve higher pass rates.
