PassGP’s orientation programs are commissioned for governments, health services and healthcare organisations preparing doctors for Australian practice. They are designed around the organisation’s workforce, jurisdiction, service, site and role, rather than assuming one program will suit every clinical setting.

The focus is on the systems around the medicine. Experienced doctors may know the clinical work but be unfamiliar with Australian registration, supervision, funding and organisational requirements. Orientation connects those requirements with practical decisions, including escalation, prescribing, referrals and local workplace processes.

A program can address registration, supervision and escalation boundaries; Medicare, prescribing, referrals and results ownership; and local pathways, clinical governance and workplace culture. The broader system view also includes AHPRA, Medical Board and AMC pathways, MBS and PBS requirements, and professional accountability.

Orientation can also address the transition into an Australian workplace, including cultural safety, communication, confidence and knowing when to ask for help. The mix is shaped around the cohort, jurisdiction, setting, clinical risks and workforce objectives so that learning relates to the decisions doctors will face.

Program design starts by mapping learning outcomes to your cohort, jurisdiction, clinical setting, risks and workforce objectives. Cases, visuals, learning materials and assessments are then built around the service model and the practical decisions doctors need to make in that context.

The delivery can combine branded digital modules, facilitated workshops and participant resources with implementation support. Facilitator packs, completion evidence and a review cycle support delivery and evaluation, while the balance of digital modules, facilitated teaching and ongoing support is designed around your workforce’s needs.

Programs can be digital, live or hybrid. Digital modules can bring together concise video, case-based learning, activities and knowledge checks in a branded experience, while facilitated workshops translate policy into discussion and practical decisions.

Supporting materials include facilitator packs, participant resources, completion evidence and a review cycle, alongside implementation support. Interactive simulation, guided practice, tailored feedback and analytics can also be integrated where they add educational value; they are capabilities to consider in the program design rather than a fixed requirement for every program.

BRiPREP is Bendigo Health’s Rural Generalist IMG Prep Program, which supports international medical graduates to become work-ready for Australian healthcare, particularly rural and regional practice. PassGP’s contribution focused on orientation for transition into Victorian general practice.

PassGP developed eight commissioned digital modules and a two-day facilitated workshop to complement BRiPREP’s broader supervised clinical placement model.
