Here is a “fact” – this will happen to you, “guaranteed”.

So:

  • Don’t panic!
  • Expect it will happen at some point, no matter how well prepared you are
  • Then we can plan for it.

When (not if) this happens to you, your first job is to acknowledge and accept it, take a big breath in and to not panic.

This is what to do:

  • Read the case.
  • Then read the actual question, and spot exactly what is being asked – as you now know, the addition of a single word can change the entire meaning of the question
  • Then, go back to your case, and spot the clues.
  • Then look at your answers. Are any so obviously wrong that you can discount them from the outset?
  • Can you spot which guideline might be relevant?
  • Finally, can you link the clues to the best answer?

Remember there is no negative marking in the MCQ & AKT exams – so even if you don’t have a clue (mind the pun) then have a guess. Academic research shows that your 1st instinct is most often correct so run with it.
