Professionalism
Jan 20, 2025
Professionalism. Astutely important to holding the privilege of being a health professional. But what on earth is it doing on PassGP?
The answer is professionalism features on several medical specialist curricula. And if it appears on a curriculum, that means it is fair game for testing.
Let’s take another look at the RACGP Curriculum Domains 2022 - Accessed here - RACGP Curriculum and Syllabus for Australian General Practice 2022
- Communication skills and the patient-doctor relationship
- Applied professional skills and knowledge.
- Population health and the context of general practice
- Professional and ethical role
- Organisational and legal dimensions
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
- Rural Health
But does the KFP really test professionalism?
You bet it does – and a lot.
But how? Well going back to academic land there are extensive papers on how to examine for professionalism, so this is nothing new per se.
On first sight the topics appear random – allegations of being intoxicated at work, allegations of doctor-patient relationships, patients wishing to make a formal complaint and the likes. But they too follow a relatively constant pattern, and the approach to answering is similar.
Our PassGP Examiners will walk you through all of this and much more, with highly relevant explanations, tips, and references. In the interim one crucial reference to read is this one:
